Overview Module 2 / Session 5 Designing the Core Elements of an Operational Risk Management Framework

Welcome to Session 5

This session helps you bring together the governance themes from Module 2 and turn them into a practical operational risk management framework.

You will learn what core elements a workable ORMF needs, how those elements connect, and how to design a framework that is proportionate, clear, and usable.

Learning objectives

  1. Identify and explain the core elements of an operational risk management framework (ORMF).
  2. Show how governance, policy, appetite, roles, assessment methods, reporting, escalation, issue management, and resilience interfaces work together.
  3. Distinguish a paper framework from a working framework that is embedded in day-to-day management.
  4. Evaluate common framework design weaknesses such as duplication, weak ownership, missing thresholds, and poor integration.
  5. Draft a fit-for-purpose ORMF outline for an organisation or case-study context.
